DEVILS BEAT LINCOLN
September 12, 2012Richmond High School
CAMBRIDGE CITY, IND. — Balance was the key on Tuesday night as Richmond’s volleyball Red Devils posted another win over a competitive area foe.
With key contributions from all of the team’s six seniors, plus some talented underclassmen, RHS swept three close games over host Lincoln 25-20, 25-17, 32-30 in the area matchup.
With Tuesday’s result, the Devils have now beaten four area teams in the past 15 days, with prior victories over Northeastern, Centerville and Union County, in that order.
One of the team’s underclass players is sophomore Shelby Miller, who played a new pivotal role on Tuesday in being a middle hitter.
“I was a little nervous before the match, because I had played right side all season, and hadn’t even practiced much in the middle,” Miller said afterward. “We just focus on coming together as a team, that is when we play better and win points.”
Miller had just six kills on the night, but did record five blocks. One of the seniors, Kiana Claiborne, had a team-high 11 kills and added four blocks, as RHS was strong at the net throughout the match. Senior Hannah Ball had 20 assists for the Devils.
