Home » Football NewsFirst one down for HolevaSeptember 2, 2012 Richmond High SchoolMatt Holeva’s first victory as head coach of the Richmond Red Devils was a wild one. A rewarding one, too — especially with the way the Devils played in the second half of their 47-34 win over Anderson. Richmond trailed the Indians by one point at halftime, but outscored them 14-0 through the next two quarters. “I don’t know if it’s sunk in yet,” said Holeva, who was an assistant coach at RHS for 15 years before becoming head coach at Centerville in 2004. “It feels great. Obviously we have a lot of things to work on, but it feels great to get the monkey off our back.” The Red Devils are now 1-2 overall, but also 1-0 in the North Central Conference. Richmond is at the top of the NCC along with Marion, Kokomo and Huntington North, all winners during Friday’s slate of Week 3 games in Indiana. “It was wonderful and a great note for the team,” Richmond senior Korey Creech said of Friday’s victory. “It’s going to give us that motivation to go on.” Richmond is 1-0 in conference play for the first time since 2006, the last season for longtime Red Devil leader Richard Bryant. http://www.pal-item.com/article/20120901/HSSPORTS01/309010027/First-one-down-Holeva?nclick_check=1
