DEVILS TAKE NORTHEASTERN IN 3

August 29, 2012
Richmond High School

With Northeastern fighting its way back, Richmond stepped up and shut the door.

Kiana Claiborne delivered a critical kill, Brooklyn Taylor served the winning point and the Red Devils completed a 3-0 sweep Tuesday night at Tiernan Center.

They did it with some players still on the mend, too. Shelby Miller (concussion), Chloe Bennett (ankle) and Paetyn Claiborne (ankle) are all out of the Richmond lineup, but the Red Devils still distributed plenty of production in their 25-14, 25-19, 25-23 victory.

Hannah Foley finished with four aces and 11 digs, Hannah Ball had 18 assists, Sydney Townsend 16 digs and Kaitlyn Helms eight kills for RHS.

“It was good to see the girls be confident,” said RHS coach Matt Fisher. “I think the skill base is there for all of them. They know the fundamentals. It’s just about being confident, not getting quiet in those moments.”

One of those moments came late in Game 3 with the Knights surging.

Richmond kept Northeastern at arm’s length throughout — until the Knights stayed steady and forced a 23-23 tie.
