Red Devils set goals for NCC, regional

Sam Byrd has many goals for his Richmond High School boys soccer team this season.

There is one main expectation he has, though, that he says will be necessary to reach those goals.

“Definitely improve from last year,” he said.

And with the resources Byrd has coming back, he is confident that the Red Devils will.

“I think with this group, if we get our heads right, we could have a conference championship,” he said. “I want to get a regional — a regional win is definitely a goal of mine. I think it’s a goal of the older kids, too.”

Leadership from those older kids will be a key for the Red Devils, who have six returning seniors along with seven juniors.

“Some of the older guys and I have talked about it. I think we have the talent to do it. I wouldn’t be just saying that. I think it’s a realistic goal,” Byrd said of winning the North Central Conference, along with a regional.
