Richmond High SchoolWARSAW, Ind. — The Earlham College made some history on Saturday as the Quakers
defeated Manchester College 9-0 at the Warsaw Racquet Club.
With the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win, Earlham now has 12 straight
victories, which is a new school record in the NCAA era.
"It's a great accomplishment, but we hope to extend it through the rest of the
year," Earlham Head Coach Adam Van Zee said. "We still have many goals left to
accomplish."
The old mark of 11 was established at the end of 2001-02 and the start of 2002-03.
The Quakers are now 15-1 overall and they lead the conference at 7-0.
Dominating play in the doubles competition, the Quakers swept the Spartans (2-9, 0-4).
Hank Levin and Anton Bartashevich beat Piero Ridoutt and Phillip Truitt 8-1 at No. 1.
Andrey Gavrilov and Brad Maisey teamed up to blank Ramiro Arguijo and Bobby Swaby
8-0 at No. 2.
Nabil Parkar and Scott Lawrence picked up an 8-2 win over Mitchell Mellott and Alex
Winger at No. 3.
In singles action, Levin defeated Ridoutt 6-0, 1-0 (retired) at No. 1, while
Bartashevich took care of Truitt 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.
Like Levin, Gavrilov also won with a retirement over Arguijo 6-3, 1-0 at No. 3.
Maisey posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Swaby at No. 4.
At No. 5, Lawrence defeated Mellott 6-1, 6-0. David Bluestein got by Winger 6-0, 6-1
at No. 6.
Earlham returns to action next Saturday at Anderson University. The HCAC match
begins at 10 a.m. The conference contest at home with Transylvania University was
moved to Wednesday, April 25 at 4 p.m.
