BALL STATE: Richards Defeats Toledo, Earns 200th Career MAC Win

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team(16-8, 2-1 MAC) managed a 4-3 defeat over Toledo in Mid-American Conference action Thursday at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.  With the win, head men's tennis coach Bill Richards has now reached 200 career MAC victories in his 40 years at the helm of the Cardinals with 601 overall wins.

At No. 1 doubles, the team of Dalton Albertin and Ray Leonard took down Leo Sarria and Tomas Stillman by a score of 8-3.  Ball State would then fall to Toledo on court three but the twosome of Zane Smith and Derek Carpenter picked up the 8-6 win over Terence Weigand and Nicholas Wong which captured the doubles point for the Cardinals.

Ball State headed into singles up 1-0 over the Rockets and quickly went up 2-0 after Leonard beat Sarria in straight sets at the No. 2 spot.  The Cardinals continued their winning ways taking a 3-0 edge after freshman Patrick Elliott managed the 6-4, 6-2 victory over Bryant Dudzik at No. 6 singles.  The Rockets fought back posting wins on court three and court one which made it a 3-2 match.  Finally, freshman Austin Smith knocked off Weigand by a ledger of 6-4, 6-4 on court five which earned Ball State the match.

The Ball State men's tennis team travels to Western Michigan Saturday in MAC action.  The match will begin at 1 p.m.

No. 1 Dalton Albertin/Ray Leonard defeats Leo Sarria/Tomas Stillman, 8-3

No. 2 Zane Smith/Derek Carpenter defeats Terence Weigand/Nicholas Wong 8-6

No. 3 Patrick Elliott/Austin Sansone loses to Grant Adamas/Bryant Dudzik, 8-5

Singles

No. 1 Dalton Albertin loses to Tomas Stillman, 7-6 (4), 6-1

No. 2 Ray Leonard defeats Leo Sarria, 7-5, 6-3

No. 3 Zane Smith lost to Nicholas Wong, 6-1, 7-5

No. 4 Austin Smith defeats Terence Weigand, 6-4, 6-4

No. 5 Alexandre Brym loses to Grant Adams, 4-6, 7-5 (10-8)
