Home » General NewsBuilding UpdateNovember 29, 2011 By Kevin Easley of Raytown South High SchoolSouth High recently underwent a Quality Assurance Review (QAR) by AdvancED (formerly the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement). The last time South High went through this extensive review process was in the early 90's. The accreditation process is focused on meeting standards and policies for quality schools, engaging in continuous improvement, and demonstrating quality assurance through internal and external review. Administrators and teachers from across the state visited us for two days. Prior to that the QAR Team reviewed a self-assessment, school profile, and other documentation. They interviewed 114 students, teachers, parents, administrators, staff, community leaders, and other stakeholders. Because of our teacher’s hard work and district commitment to South High, we were able to be fully accredited.
Seven standards were reviewed that included:
1. Vision and Purpose 2. Governance and Leadership 3. Teaching and Learning 4. Documenting and Using Results 5. Resource and Support Systems 6. Stakeholder Communications and Relationships 7. Commitment to Continuous Improvement
Each standard was evaluated, and findings were presented to our faculty. An overall assessment of Not Evident, Emerging, Operational, and/or Highly Functional could be assigned. We received a Highly Functional evaluation on Standard 1, Vision and Purpose, and Highly Functional on Standard 2, Governance and Leadership. We were assessed a finding of Operational in Standards 3-7. Many schools receive Not Evident. Furthermore, we received 6 commendations and 2 required actions. Most schools receive 3 commendations and 3 required actions.
We are proud and most pleased with the results. We also realize we have much work to do as we move forward with our goals of improving student achievement. The Quality Assurance Review Team affirmed the hard work and commitment by our building and school district. Without the support of our School Board, Central Office Administrators, and Curriculum Coordinators this accreditation would not have been received.
