Home » Girls' Soccer NewsGirls' Soccer Takes 2nd at Winnetonka TournamentMay 25, 2011 By Ryan Murdock of Raytown South High SchoolThe Lady Cardinals soccer team traveled to the Winnetonka tournament over the weekend and came away from the tournament with a 2nd place finish and a 2-1 record for the two days. Only a very late goal by Winnetonka in the opening game Friday night denied the Cards the title. Raytown South lost to Winnetonka 2-1 in their opening game after holding the lead for almost the entire game. Dara Britton scored early for the cards off a feed from Heather Howard. Winnetonka got the tying goal with a little under 15 minutes to go off a corner kick before netting the game winner with under 11 seconds to play. South returned on Saturday, and in frigid conditions including snow, the Cards defeated Schlagle High School 1-0 on a goal by Alexis Christal. The Cards were playing that game without several starters and the game was not as close as a 1-0 score would indicate. In the final game of the tournament, a tired South squad got by Grandview 2-0 on goals by Emily Peters and Katie Blevins. For the weekend, the Cardinals only gave up 4 shots on goal as the defense of Suzi Hamilton, Aspen Juarez, Bailey Burt, Taylor Harrison, Makayla Pfaff, and Katie Blevins held strong. The Cardinals have their first home game of the season on Monday (3/28) at 5:30p.m. against Truman. The Cards will play the very next day at home as well in their conference opener against Fort Osage. That game will also start at 5:30p.m. Go Team!
