Home » Girls' Soccer NewsGirls Soccer Triumphs at St. Joe CentralMay 25, 2011 By Ryan Murdock of Raytown South High SchoolFor awhile it looked like the Raytown South girls soccer team would not be able to shake their dead legs and run with St. Joe Central, but that all changed in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Samantha Woodward's goal 8 minutes into the second half tied the score 2-2 and Ashley Chandler scored the winner just 4 minutes later as the Lady Cardinals defeated St. Joe Central 3-2 in St. Joseph Friday night. The game opened well for the Cardinals as Woodward scored in the 17th minute to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. However, after already playing 2 hard fought games in the week, the girls looked tired the rest of the half and surrendered two late goals and went into halftime trailing 2-1. It didn't help that the field conditions were less than ideal, the playing surface was ridiculously tall and made it almost impossible to dribble effectively. Ray-South survived a late flurry by St. Joe Central (including a missed penalty kick) and notched their 4th win of the season. The Cards were 2-1 this week and will look to continue this momemtum into the coming week. Raytown South will play Blue Springs at home on April 20th at 6p.m. and then will play Fort Osage away AT 4P.M. This is a time change. AGAIN, THE GAME ON APRIL 22ND AT FORT OSAGE WILL BE AT 4P.M. Go Team!
