Home » Girls' Soccer NewsGirls' Soccer Defeats Previously Unbeaten BeltonMay 25, 2011 By Ryan Murdock of Raytown South High SchoolThe Raytown South Girls soccer team took a big step forward Thursday night at the new Belton District Activities Complex. The Lady Cards defeated previously unbeaten Belton 1-0 in what turned into a very physical contest. The game was played in 30 to 40 mph winds and the Cardinals played with the wind in the first half. A terrific through ball from Ashley Chandler to striker Heather Howard provided the first half offense as she was taken down in the penalty box. Samantha Woodward converted the PK and the Cards led 1-0. Despite numerous chances the rest of the half for South, the game went to halftime 1-0. Knowing the game would be a battle against the wind, the Cards hunkered down and played absolutely tremendous defense in the second half. Even though Belton controlled the ball most of the half, they were limited to just 3 shots on goal for the half, 2 of them coming off of restarts. The Cardinals killed the clock late and escaped Belton with the 1-0 win. The victory allowed the Cardinals to improve to 1-3 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. Belton's loss dropped them to 3-1 on the year and 0-1 in conference. It will be a busy week for the Cards as they host three home games. Monday against O'Hara, Tuesday against Lee's Summit West, and Thursday against Raytown. All games start at 6:00p.m. and are played at the new soccer field at RSHS. Go Team!
