B-Team Cardinals blank Nowlin
October 17, 2013By Kennedy Johnson of Raytown South High School
The Cardinals made up a missed B-game on Monday, Oct. 14th vs. the Nowlin Panthers.
The Nowlin team played their A-game vs. Hickman Mills and won their game 41-0. The win gave the panthers 2 wins for the season, most in their school history. Good news for the Nowlin supporters.
Our Cardinals were also trying to stay perfect on the season. The Redbirds were playing on a fantastic field in Independence, MO - artificial turf for middle school games. Almost unheard of, however that's what was waiting for our boys when they played the game.
The defense dominated the line of scrimmage. The Panthers spent much of the game on their side of the 50 yd. line. The offense using the new "I-formation" Sweep package used their speed to get outside the Panthers defense as they build up a 30-0 lead at half. They would win the game 42-0 and post their second shut-out of the season.
Micheal Cook, Dieon Caddiell, Donny Locke and Kelyn Bolton found the endzone on running plays. Lundon Roulett and James Mitchell also scored TDs in the 2nd half. The defense forced 2 turnovers while keeping the powerful running game of Nowlin in check.
Overall, Coach McIntyre was quite happy with her Sooner/Wildcat offense as they posted 42 points. Coach Moore was also proud of his defensive units efforts. Carlton Comer took over the kicking duties and performed very well. All 23 players got plenty of playing time.
The team went home happy and ready to play the Raytown Bluejays the next day.
Both teams head into the Raytown game at 5-0. The last undefeated teams for South Middle occurred in 2007 as both teams went undefeated with a record of 12-0. Let's go Cardinals!
