Cardinals stay undefeated by beating Ravens
October 11, 2013By Kennedy Johnson of Raytown South High School
The goal for the team was to win! Plain and simple. The Cardinals have put themselves in the positon they wanted to be in from start of the season back in January. 5-0 and the Raytown Bluejays are next.
The 41-6 win was not easy. Raytown Central has a good team and can pass the ball well. Coach Anthony Morgan and his Ravens had a good game plan. The Cardinals had other ideas.
All week the message was, this is a good Raven team and they can hurt you if you don't play to your potential. The Cardinals came out fired up on Defense. Held the Ravens and ran a couple of plays to score first behind a strong offensive line and Jasir Cox's legs. Mr. Cox scored three touchdowns on the day and caught a 2-pt. conversion pass from Patrick Walton. John Burnett also had good day, one TD and ran in a 2-pt. conversion. Late in the game, Patrick Walton called his own number and ran the ball in from 3 yds. Tyler Jones added one PAT kick. The other one hit the upright after the team was off-sides and had to back up 5 yds.
On the defensive side of the ball, Logan England intercepted a pass, Micheal Cleaves sacked the quarterback four times along with 8 tackles for the game. Jeremiah Bell played solid from his outside linebacker spot. Camron Jones, Lewis Caples, Tyler Jones and Gaven Gully dominated the line of scrimmage. Reaud Hall & Markarios Page made sure the Raven passing game was held in check. Along with the interception, the Cardinals also recovered a fumble.
With the B-team winning the night cap game, 38-6, their record raises to 4-0. The B-team travels to Nowlin (Independence) to play their fifth game as there was not a B-game vs. Hickman.
The B-game featured the sweep; Michael Cook, Dieon Caddiell and Jermey Smith ran wild as they took the ball outside and for long runs. Each of the RBs scored on the sweep. Jamar Madge also scored a TD while managing the Red bird's offense in fine fashion. QB-Madge also connected with Tyler Yokum for a TD pass. The Red Rage defense kept the Ravens offense in check most of the night. The whole defense can take a bow for their efforts.
It all comes down to the next game - Raytown Bluejays. It will be a great game, so come on out and support the Cardinals as they go for their 6th undefeated season. The first one occured in 1971 and the last one occured in 2007 with Jasir Cox's brothers; Jamil and Jamal Cox. Can history repeat itself - come to the game on Oct. 15th and find out.
