Red-White Game 2013
September 5, 2013By Kennedy Johnson of Raytown South High School
The 2013 Cardinal Football team has 43 players on the team. Plenty of talent and a good defense. The annual Red-White game was held on Thursday, Sept. 5th. The game format was changed this year as the game was played more like a real game rather than an organized scrimmage.
The defenses dominated the game as the Red team edged the White team 12-6. The team is very deep on defense with lots of talent and depth on the defensive line and linebackers. Coach Lambert is tweeking his personel and after today's game, he has found a good formula for the upcoming season.
The weather was hot and muggy which resulted in several water breaks through out the game as a precaution. The players battled through the humidity and were able to continue playing.
The offense usually struggles early in the season and that was the case for this game. Too many mistake and penalties. However, a second period drive had the Red team deep into the White zone but a great hit by Makario Page jarred the ball loose for the White team and they recovered the ball ending the long drive by the Red team.
The Red team was able to score late in the 1st Quarter on a short run by Jasir Cox. The 2 pt. conversion pass failed. Red Team was up 6-0.
The White team able to move the ball, but the drive stalled near the 30 yd. line just before the half. The Red team was able to put together a quick drive resulting in a Patrick Walton to John Burnett pass resulted in a TD as the first half ended. The two-pt. conversion failed, leaving the score at half 12-0.
During the 3rd Quarter, Jasir Cox ran the ball in for the White team making the final score 12-6. The white team did have one more chance but were unable to score as Jamil Miller was injuried on the last play of the game trying to help his team into the endzone. Further information on Jamil's injury will be provided at a later date.
The coaches now have four days to prepare for the first game vs. Center. The home game next week, Sept. 12th, will be the first game of the season for both teams. Game time is 4:00 pm.
