GOOD HOPE RAIDER FOOTBALL vs WINSTON COUNTY YELLOW JACKETS
At Malcom Blake Stadium, Double Springs, AL
September 13, 2013
WEEK 3 AHSAA 3A REGION 7 GAME
The Good Hope Raiders found a way to win last night at Double Springs defeating the homestanding Yellow Jackets 41-27.
The win came with a cost though as the Raiders quarterback, Sebastien Fendley had to leave the game with a double break in his left arm. Coach Moss showed us the x-ray and it is very clear that both large bones are broke.
The old cliche 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going' was evident last night as Riley Eisner (9th grade) stepped in to run the offense for the Raiders. Eisner was stellar in the game.
The Raiders had the ball first and drew first blood on a 4 yard run by Jerod McClure. The PAT by Collin Harris was good.
After a Yellow Jacket score and PAT the Raiders used up 4:21 of the clock before Riley Eisner found Jerod McClure for a 21 yard touchdown. The PAT by Harris was good.
Winston County answered with a 60 yard pass and PAT to even up the score again 14-14.
Good Hope had possession of the ball as the 1st quarter ended.
The Raiders used up over half of the 2nd quarter completing the drive (6:15) with another 4 yard score by Jerod McClure. Harris' PAT was good.
Winston County answered again with a score and PAT.
With the score again tied at 21-21 the teams headed into the locker room for half time.
The Good Hope Marching Band put on a fabulous show at halftime beginning their routine with the members stretched completely around the football field sidelines and end lines!
The Raiders kicked off the 2nd half and forced the Yellow Jackets to punt.
The ensuing drive consumed 6:06 of the 3rd quarter before Riley Eisner ran 1 yard for the score. Harris' PAT was good.
The Raiders then forced a three and out by Winston County. The Raiders would have the ball at the end of the 3rd frame with a 28-21 lead.
A few plays later, Eisner found Austin Crubley for a 9 yard touchdown pass. Harris' PAT missed.
On the Yellow Jacket's second play from scrimmage Alex Cofer intercepted the ball returning it for a touchdown. Harris' PAT was good.
Winston County managed a score after that but the PAT was blocked by the Raiders.
The final score Good hope 41-27.
Good Hope goes to 3-0 (2-0) and is in a three way tie for 1st place in AHSAA 3A Region 7. Winston County is 0-3 (0-2).
Good Hope travels to Hamilton next week for another region game.

Good Hope travels to Double Springs tonight to play region foe Winston County. This will be the 11th time these two teams have battled on the gridiron with Winston County winning 6 games and Good Hope winning 4. Good Hope is the favorite tonight as the Raiders come into the game 2-0 and Winston County is 0-2.
The Raiders defeated Holly Pond in Week 1 61-14 (school record points) and region foe Hanceville in overtime in Week 2 28-22 while the Yellow Jackets lost to 1A Lynn 28-47 and region team Winfield 19-50.
Sebastien Fendley, Jerod McClure, Justin Turner, Jonathan Burnette, Chris Raper, Austin Crubley, Kainan Smith and Jordan Collins provide Good Hope with firepower on offense.
Give credit where credit is due. The line is veteran and has some size. 6'4, 296 pound #72 Anthony Harlan, 6'5, 281 pound #76 James Hancock, 6'5, 250 pound #62 Jonathan Grigsby and #74 Daniel Moss are seniors that anchor the powerful offense for the Raiders. Make no mistake about it, the BIG UGLIES are the ones that make it happen.
The Raiders are strong defensively as well with senior Alex Cofer at linebacker as well as Lee Whisenant, Jonathan Burnette and Austin White. Justin Turner provides speed and power tackling in the secondary. Turner gets help from a host of Raider defenders.
Oh, and don't forget the outstanding leg of kicker Collin Harris.
The Good Hope Raiders look to extend their record tonight to 3-0 but they are certainly not counting their chickens before they hatch. One game at a time!

Not really sure how useful this is but here is Redd Rider's following of the game. Although parts of it are incomplete due to being impossible to read the Yellow Jackets numbers.
