Home » Boys' Basketball News4th Annual New Year Prep ClassicJanuary 17, 2012 By Naundra Taylor of Queen City Preparatory AcademyCharlotte, NC-Queen City Preparatory Academy will host the 4th Annual New Year Prep Classic Men's Basketball Tournament, Friday & Saturday, January 6th and 7th in Fort Mill, SC at The Pointe Arts and Recreation Center (formerly the Bobcats Training Facility) located at 2266 Deerfield Drive, Fort Mill, South Carolina 29715. The arena is located off I-77, Exit 88 next to the Charlotte Knights Baseball Stadium. The New Year Prep Classic features boys' high school, prep school and postgrad basketball programs from across the country. The teams in this tournament play national basketball schedules and include players domestically and internationally. There is a high level of talent competing for the championship trophy which promises to entertain all. This year, the participating teams include:
The New Year Prep Classic will hosts some of the top prep school players in the country. Many of these players are being heavily recruited by some of the top Division I and Division II college basketball programs in the country. Some players to watch at this event include: Rajdeep Bal, #32, 6'7 Forward. Qualifier. Queen City Prep. Currently being recruited by Lindenwood, Bethune-Cookman, Johnson C. Smith, George Mason and Pfeiffer. Garth Bailey, #3, Guard. Qualifier. Queen City Prep. Phenomenal shooter with high basketball I.Q. Tyler Major, #10, Point Guard. Junior. Queen City Prep. A very athletic point guard with very good court awareness and big upside. Dantre Langhorne, #13, Small Forward. Queen City Prep. Major DI basketball player that is coming on late due to injury. Highly recruited out of high school. Expect big things second half of the year. Thomas DeVane, #14, Point Guard. Qualifier. Queen City Prep. Very fast and quick guard. Great on the ball defender. Good court awareness. Joseph Onabolu, #45, Shooting Guard. Junior. Queen City Prep. A very athletic point guard with very good court awareness and big upside. This tournament is a single elimination tournament with a single championship game and trophy ceremony on Saturday, January 7th. The schedule for Day 1 is as follows: Friday, January 6th 3:00pm Southwest Academy vs. Leadership Prep (Court 1) Tennessee Temple JV vs. M.A.C.K. Academy (Court 2) 4:30pm Global Prep vs. Trent Prep (Court 1) Beacon Prep vs. Score Academy (Court 2) 6:00pm Queen City Prep vs. Winner of Game 1 (Court 1) Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2 (Court 2) 7:30pm Loser of Game 4 vs. Loser of Game 5 (Court 1) Winner of Game 6 vs. Loser of Game 3 (Court 2) The games on Saturday will begin at 3:30pm and the championship game will begin at 8:00pm followed by the trophy ceremony. Admission for the event is $10 for adults and $5 for students with a school I.D. Children under 5 are free.
