DeSmet had some paybacks to South on Friday night, as the Spartans (6-16, 0-8) beat the Patriots (14—8, 6-2) 56-49.  During the Ameritime Tournament back in late January, South won 62-55.  This night belong to DeSmet from the start.  They opened up a 15-6 lead after one quarter and led at the break, 30-12.  It took midway thru the third quarter before South made a comeback.  South cut the lead to 35-25 with 2:30 left in the third and trailed 37-29 after three quarters.  With 3:00 to go in the game, Jeremy Verges made two free throws to make the score 45-41 and with just over a minute left the score was 49-46, but a turnover and technical foul sealed the game for DeSmet.  Verges led all scorers with 21 points as he was perfect from the foul line (8-8).  Mitch Plassmeyer paced the Spartans with 15 points.
