Lafayette Takes Control of Conference Race With Win Over South

February 14, 2014
By psouth hoops of Parkway South Basketball

The Lancers (17-3, 5-0) put on a shooting show Tuesday night at Parkway South (11-7, 4-2) in route to their fifth win in conference with a 70-54 win over the Patriots.  South got on the board first with a Luke Bakula three pointer but Lafayette won the first quarter 21-13.  South was behind at half time 34-26 but was able to come back in the third quarter as Jeremy Verges and Matt Highsmith got hot and was down 49-42 after three.  Early in the fourth, South was able to get within a point but clutch shooting by Nate Messer and Cameron Scales was to much for the Patriots to handle and Lafayette went on to win 70-51.  South was led by Jeremy Verges with 17 and Matt Highsmith with 13.  South shot 38% from the field and just 23% from three point range.  Lafayette was led by Nate Messer with 19 and Cameron Scales with 16.  The Lancers shot 58% from the field and 61% from three.
