Amertime Tournament Updates

January 25 Round Three

In the final game of the Ameritime Tournament for South, they opened with a quick two points from Jeremy Verges and took a 13-5 first quarter lead over DeSoto (14-6).    South was able hold the Dragons to just 10 points in the first half and went in at half time with a 24-10 lead.  The lead grew to 23 in the third quarter and the Patriots went on to win 58-33.  Chris Dandridge who was named to the all tournament team had a game high 15 points, Jeremy Verges added 13 and Matt Highsmith had 11.  The Patriots shot 36% from the field (21-59) and was 63% from the free throw line (14-22).  Parkway South improved to 6-11 on the season.

January 23rd Round Two
The Patriots came ready to play against the Parkway Central Colts.  This was the second time these two teams matched up this season, and South was ready for the rematch.  The Colts won the first game by 8 in the first game of the year.  The Patriots dominated the first half going up 14 points by the end of the second quarter, but the Colts were able to hit a three pointer to cut the lead to 11 at the end of the second quarter.  The second half was a slugfest on both ends of the courts for these two teams.  The Colts managed to cut the lead to 7 by the start of the fourth quarter as the momentum slowly started to shift to Parkway Central.  As the Patriots wore down through injury, three players needed to be taken out of the game for South, the Colts kept coming.  With the game tied with under a minute to go South had two open looks at the basket but could not convert.  The last one came at about 8 seconds.  Central secured the rebound called a timout and was able to get a look at the basket from about 25 feet out for a desperation 3 that hit the right side of the rim and went in to win the game 54-51.  Next up for the Patriots will be Desoto (14-5) on Friday at 4:00 at Missouri Baptist University.

January 21st  Round One
The eighth seed South went head to head with the one seed Hazelwood Central in the opening round of the Ameritime Tourney at Missouri Baptist.  It did not go well for the first quarter.  The Hawks got up on the Patriots 12-0 and won the first quarter 14-5.  After another tough first quarter, South woke up and made a few more plays winning the second quarter 13-11.  Coming out of halftime the Patriots forced the Hawks to shoot some tough shots, which helped them cut the lead to seven with three minutes to play.  South then had four empty trips causing the lead to expand.  The third ended with South down 34-21.  They continued to fight, but lost 45-27.  South was carried by Jeremy Verges who had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

This was the first time South has been in the consolation bracket.  Every year they have been in the Ameritime Tourney they have placed third.  South battles Parkway Central Wednesday at 4pm.  This is a rematch of the first game of the season when Central beat South 62-54.
