Basketball Tryout Expectations

Boys Basketball Tryouts Expectations
Physcial Forms needed for tryout. Click on the above link to print and complete the forms. They must be turned into the athletic office before October 28th in order to tryout.
There are five basic sets of criteria in which you will be evaluated on by the coaching staff.
1. Skill (individual and team skill/conceptualization)
3. Commitment/Team Player
Individual Skills: You should be able to do some or all of the following depending on your grade level.
Dribbling - Both hands with out watching the ball, control, speed, crossover, pivot, between the knees, behind the back.
Pivot – triple threat, on-side, crossover, reverse, step-back, drop-step, and up and under.
Passing - chest, bounce, post-entry, and transition
Shooting - lay-ups both hands full speed 100% accuracy, form shooting, (Shooting Goals 80%free throws, be able to make 40 15 ft. jump shots in 5 minutes, be able to make 30 3 pt. shots in 5 minutes.
Defense - Stance, shuffle, close out, box out, and rebound.
Screening - Ball, Down, Cross, Back, and Post
Screen/Cut - Post, Dive, Pop, Flare, and Flash
Cuts with or without screen - Basket, Replace, Roll, Curl, Pop, Flash, Fade, and Backdoor
Knowledge and execution of base offenses and defenses taught at camps, practice, etc.
Transition - Spots 1-5 and their responsibilities, 2 on 1 break, 3 on 2 break, 4 on 3 break, 5 on 5 Conversion
Convert to Defense - 10-20-30-40-50
Stances - Ball, deny, and help (flat triangle)
Be able to Defend - Down screen, cross screen, ball screen, back screen, post screen, and flex screen from all stances.
Know the multiple defenses 1-3-1, 2-3 match up, 1-2-2, Zone traps, and man traps
General Expectations - If you cannot meet these general expectations you could be cut.
1. Equipment: Shorts, socks, basketball shoes, and shirt (reversible jersey preferred)
2. Completed Physical and Emergency Consent Card
3. To be at all dates for the tryout.
4. Be on time 2:35, be coachable, work as hard as you can.
