Lewis L. Newman

Coach Newman is a 1981 graduate of Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia, NC.  Coach Newman entered the U.S. Army after high school and served in both the Army and Navy before continuing on to The Medical College of Georgia, graduating as a Physician Assistant with honors and earning Physician Assistant of the Year.  Coach Newman became a Medical College of Georgia faculty member, teaching health, physical examinations and acute care to medical students before transferring to Duke University Medical Center as the Chief Physician Assistant in Cardiovascular surgery.  Coach Newman moved to Greensboro in 1998 and joined Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery of Greensboro as a Physician Assistant.  Coach Newman started coaching in 1991 and has been coaching for 15 years in football, lacrosse and basketball at various levels of competition.  Coach Newman’s love for children and sports lead him to pursue a teaching position in Guilford County Schools in 2001 as a Health Specialist and Physical Education teacher.  Coach Newman coached at Eastern Guilford, and Mendenhall Middle School, starting the first middle school lacrosse program for boys and girls in Guilford County middle schools.  His lacrosse record at Mendenhall is an impressive 44-0, undefeated in 4 years, along with a football record of 25-5 with two conference championships in four years at Mendenhall.  Coach Newman and The Deebs Young Foundation are responsible for building a multi-purpose athletic stadium at Mendenhall Middle School in 2006.  Coach Newman has been an Athletic Director since 2001.  Coach Newman is married with a beautiful wife that teaches math and has four wonderful children.
