COLD SHOOTING LIONS FELL BEHIND EARLY & NEVER THREATEN TIGERS

Jim Hunter’s Calhoun Tigers opened the Dwight Madison New Year’s Tournament’s consolation match with the Prattville Lions Thursday afternoon, December 29, at Carver High’s Edward L. Wood Memorial Gymnasium with an 8-0 run.

Prattville could never regroup as the Tigers then ended the first period with an 26-8 lead, and never looked back in swatting away the Lions, 68-54.

The cold shooting Lions could never get into any rhyme and for most of the first half, Calhoun raced up and down the court building a large lead.  By half time the Tigers led, 37-21.

Midway of the third quarter Calhoun’s lead increased to 22 points at, 52-30, with 5:26 left in the period.

Hunter swept his reserves into the battle. Prattville won the final period, 18-15.

Raymone and Devel Goldsmith sparked the Tigers (8-5) to the victory, scoring 16 and 13 points respectively.

Brandon Smith paced the Lions’ attack with 16 points, followed by Justin Lawrence with 13 points and Mike Smith with six points.

Prattville fell to 4-5 for the young season.

Carver’s Wolverines held off Jeff Davis in the all-Montgomery finals to win the tournament, 68-59.  Carver is now 13-3, while Jeff Davis fell to 15-3.
