Home » Basketball NewsJeff Davis Jayvees blister Lions, 64-42December 16, 2011 By Jimmy White of Prattville High SchoolJD USE SECOND HALF 10-0 RUN TO CRUISE PAST YOUNG LIONS A talented Jeff Davis Junior Varsity used a 10-2 run to close out the first half Tuesday night in Powell Gymnasium to take a 34-19 lead over Prattville’s Jayvees. The Volunteers’ jayvee team never trailed and coasted to a 64-42 victory. Prattville dropped to 1-1 on the young season. Jeff Davis’ Antonio McClain took the second half toss-in from Derrick Gumble and raced down court for a lay-up and a 36-19 lead. Prattville answered quickly at their end of the court with a bucket in the paint from Zack Darby. The Volunteers them began a 10-0 run as McClain hit another 2-pointer from top of the key. Midway of the third period the Volunteers held a 46-21 lead. Ty Moore broke the Jeff Davis run with a putback in the paint off a missed jump shot by Patrick Parks with 2:28 left in the quarter. The Lions then battled Jeff Davis on even terms to close out the third period trailing 53-32. Cody Smith connected with two buckets from the paint, while Ty Moore added a putback. Zack Darby and Kyiewaijtne Ward both added two free throws. The Volunteers won the final period, 11-10. Zack Darby and Ty Moore paced the Lions’ scoring with with 12 points each. McClain was tops for the Volunteers with ten points, while Chase Gavin added nine points.
