Lions win Autauga County Tournamnet

LIONS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Prattville Lions' boys' basketball team fought off the pesky Marbury Bulldogs Saturday night at James Powell Gymnasium to capture the 2010 Autauga County Basketball Championship with a 64-34 win.
The Lions took control in the opening minutes of the game as Tournament MVP Jaylen Whitlow drained a short jumper for a 2-0 lead following the opening tip. Derrick Moncrief added a 2-pointer following a missed Marbury shot and Austin Golson hit the front end of a two shot free throw and a 5-0 lead.
Shakeal Robinson broke the run with a jumper from the free throw line. After Jerry Tyus pumped in a 2-pointer to cut the Lions lead to 5-4, Justin Shanks got a put back for a 7-4 lead with 2:55 left in the quarter.
Prattville never relinquished the lead, ending the quarter with a 12-6 run and a 19-10 lead.
By halftime the Lions had increased the lead to 33-16. Opening the second period Prattville went on a 10-2 run as Whitlow hit a turnaround jumper from the lane on the opening toss in of the period. Dennis Key ended the run with a deuce from the paint for the Bulldogs of coach Zack Golson.
By halftime the Lions led 33-16. The third period ended with Prattville on top 51-26. Prattville own the final period 13-8.
It was the third consecutive county title for Prattville since wrestling it away from Autaugaville in 2008.
D'Ante Lawrence's 17 points was tops for the Lions, followed by Freshman Austin Golson's 15, Jaylen Whitlow added ten and George Michael Rowe finished with seven points.
Jerry Tyus was tops for the Bulldogs with 15 points, followed by A. J. Walton's seven points.
Marbury reached the championship battle with a 76-47 win over the Billingsley Bears Thursday night.
Prattville reached the finals with a 58-41 win over the Autaugaville Eagles. Coach Darren Golson's Eagles played with the Lions for one half. However the Lions pulled away in the third quarter as the Eagles had a poor shooting performance, tallying only five points as Prattville took a 35-29 lead.
Prattville won the final period as well with 23-12 edge as Derrick Moncrief led the way with 8-points and Jaylen Whitlow hit two treys and added two deuces, as well as three free throws, to pace the action in the final period
Jaylen Whitlow's 21 points paced the way for the Lions followed by Derrick Moncrief with ten, D'Ante Lawrence with 8-points and Brandon Smith with seven.
Autaugaville's Malcolm Cyrus led all scorers with 23 points, while Rod Willis added 12 points, all on treys, and Nick Tiller had six points.
