FIVE LIONS INK LOI ON NATIONAL SIGNING DAY
February 6, 2014By Jimmy White of Prattville High School
KAMRYN PETTWAY TO JOIN AUBURN TIGERS; JARROD JONES HEAD TO WEST POINT & ARMY
Head football coach and Athletic Director Chad Anderson was all smiles Wednesday morning at the library of Prattville High School. Anderson had conducted the signing party of five of his football players from the 2013 football team.
The high school’s library was packed with family members, as well as fans students and a number of members of the press.
After the closing of the impressive ceremony Anderson also said that 3-4 other Lions from the 2013 team had offers and would decide and sign at a later date. That’s quite impressive for the 2013 team, which ended the season with a 7-3 record and also returned to the state playoffs.
The highlight of the 2014 Prattville High School signees was all-state running back Kamryn Pettway inking with Auburn University. Pettway was regarded as the 13th most sought after prospect in the state.
Another bright star for Anderson and the Lions’ program was the scholarship awarded to defensive lineman Jarrod Jones. Jones was the heart and soul of the Prattville defensive front. He accepted an offer to attend the United State Military Academy in West Point.
Thus Prattville’s class of 2014 has two Division One signees.
In addition to Pettway and Jones, linebacker Jacob Blalock (6-1-185) accepted a scholarship offer to Huntingdon College to play for Coach Mike Turk.
Blalock will join two former Prattville Lions, Zach Brownell, and Jake Williams, are current members of the Hawks football team. Huntingdon College is a NCAA Division III school and is a member of the USA South Athletic Conference.
Blalcok will become the second player in his family to play football at the Fairview Avenue School. His older brother Justin was also a linebacker for the Lions during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He too signed a schlorship offer with the Hawks.
Chandler Houser (6-4-205) a skilled wide receiver, tight end or H back player accepted an offer from Faulkner University.
Houser will join two former Prattville Lions at Faulkner, Justin Oates and Randall Reese. The Eagles head coach is Brent Barker who will begin his third season with the football program.
The Eagles went 9-3 last fall and was ranked as high as number 10 in the NAIA polls. Faulkner made the NAIA playoffs, however lost to the University of Saint Francis (Fort Wayne, Indiana) in the first round 20-13.
Nate Jackson (6-4-220) defensive lineman for the Lions will join the Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons in Hutchinson, Kansas. The school is highly regarded in the ranks of junior college programs.
Hutchinson Community College is 82 years old and has played in 18 JUCCO Bowl games. Last fall the Blue Dragons defeated Dakota College, 58-0, in the Salt City Bowl. The Dragons have a remarkable record for placement of its players into four year schools after their sophomore year.
A former player, Cordarrelle Patterson, is a member of the Minnesota Vikings and was named to the NFL Pro Bowl this winter.
Patterson received a scholarship to the University of Tennessee after his two years as a Blue Dragon. He was then drafted by the Vikings following his Tennessee career.
It was a great day to be Prattville Lions on National Signing Day, 2014.
