Xavier Robinson’s Prattville Lions boys’ basketball team and the Wetumpka Indians played another barn burner Tuesday night January 21 in Wetumpka.

Again it went down to the wire with Wetumpka taking advantage of two critical Prattville turnovers in the final ten seconds to defeat the Lions for the second time this season, 75-72. Prattville had taken a 72-71 lead with 1:04 remaining on an Andre McBride steal and layup.

McBride pilfered the ball after Kingston Davis had missed a free throw and Wetumpka was taking it down court.  Davis raced down the free throw lane dropping in a 2-pointer and a 72-71 Prattville lead.

Wetumpka then went down court and milked the clock down to 48.8 seconds and took a time out.

Rodreka Jones then drove down the side of the free-throw lane and dropped in a bucket with 21.8 on the clock for a 73-72 lead.

Prattville took the ball under the nets and turned it over at mid court with 14.6 seconds left.  The Lions were then forced to foul.   Antonio George hit both free throws with 11.8 to play.

Prattville took the ball out and again turned the ball over at midcourt with 7.7 seconds to play.  Wetumpka then ran out the clock to post a 75-72 Area 7 class 6A victory.

With the  victory Wetumpka won the 2013-2014 series two games to none having rallying in the final four minutes of play to win 83-72 January 10th in Prattville.

Wetumpka took an early 25-18 lead in the first quarter behind the hot hand of Demarcus Hutchison.  Hutchinson tossed in three baskets from the lane plus adding a free throw.

Hutchinson’s performance was slightly overshadowed by Jone who hit three sizzling 3-pointers in the quarter.

Brandon Fisher, McBride and Ty Moore kept the Lions in the game.  Fisher hit two treys and a deuce, while McBride had two baskets from the lane and Moore added a 3-pointer and a deuce.

The second quarter was a even keel battle with Wetumpka on top at halftime, 38-31,

The third quarter ended as O. J. Jackson drained a trey at the buzzer to give Wetumpka a five point margin, 53-48.

The final period began with Kingston Davis trimming the Indians lead to 3-points with two free throws.  Wetumpka retaliated with a 6-0 run and led 59-50 with 6:26 left in the final stanza.

Prattville wouldn’t go away.  Trailing 71-64 with 2:33 to play, the Lions made their final run.  Davis started it with two free throws.  A Wetumpka turnover and a foul resulted in McBride hitting one free throw trimming the lead to 71-67 with 2:05 to play.

Wetumpka turned the ball over under the Lions’ net and Davis popped in a 2-pointer, 71-69, and was fouled.  He missed the free throw setting up the steal by McBride to give the Lions the short lived lead.

During the final 64 seconds Lady Luck left the Lions with Wetumpka taking advantage of the unfortunate turnovers by Prattville to win the important Area game.

Roderka Jones led the Indians with 31 points.  Demarcus Hutchison added 16 points and Tyler Chance added ten points.
