Kingston Davis enjoys playing against Stanhope Elmore.  In the first meeting this season in Millbrook on December 6 Davis tossed in 18 points to lead Prattville past the Mustangs, 80-71.  Friday night January 17, at Prattville’s Powell Gymnasium, Davis tossed in 14-points and again the Lions defeated the Mustangs to win the 2013-2014 series, two games to none.

Prattville jumped out front on the opening tip with a trey from Josh Moore near the top of the circle.  A steal on the toss in by Brandon Fisher and a layup gave the Lions a 5-0 lead.

Prattville was off and running going on a 10-0 run.  By 4:25 of the first quarter the Lions led 15-2 en route to a 70-59 Area 7 Class 6A victory.

The Mustangs wouldn’t roll over however and began a run of their own.  From the 4:25 mark of the first quarter Stanhope Elmore outscored the Lions 15-5 to trim the lead to 20-17 at the close of the initial period.

The Mustangs kept it close for most of the second period.  With 3:02 left in the half Bishop Frazier drove the base line and hit a 2-pointer that trimmed Prattville’s lead to 31-30.  The Mustangs got a turnover on the toss in as Jaryus Wilson flipped in a 2-ponter from top of the free throw line for a 32-31 Mustang lead.

Prattville came down court with Davis draining a long trey putting the Lions back on top 34-32.  The Mustangs raced down court with E. J. Lana tossing in a deuce to knot the game at 34-all with 1:11 left in the half.

Prattville then ran off a 6-0 run to lead at halftime 40-34.   Davis hit a 2-pointer from the free throw line, Cody Smith added a free throw and Carlos Coleman drove down the lane and hit a deuce from the free throw line and was fouled.  He made the free throw with 33 seconds left on the clock to keep Prattville on top at halftime.

To open the second half Ty Moore connected on a 3-pointer and a 43-34 lead.  Cody Smith’s hook shot with 4:05 left in the period gave the Lions a 12 point cushion, 48-36.

The Mustangs wouldn’t go away and battled back to trim the lead to 53-46 as Brandon Epkins drained a trey at the buzzer ending the third period.

Wilson’s trey from top of the key cut the lead to 53-49 as the final quarter began.  That was as close as the Mustangs would get.  Andre McBride put back from under the nets pushed Prattville’s lead back to 55-49.

From there the Lions pulled away to win 70-59.

Kingston Davis and Brandon Fisher each finished the afternoon with 14-points to pace the Lions.  Jaryus Wilson led all scorers with 22 points for Stanhope Elmore.  Brandon Epkins chipped in 13 points.
