Prattville High School had five Lion football players ink schloarship offers on NSD (National Signing Day) Wednesday February 6. Before a large gathering of friends, fans, and students at the high school's library head football coach Chad Anderson prasied the contributions the five gave to the program last fall.
Anderson aslo stated that the Lions would perhaps have 3-4 more players sign offers later.
Headlining the signing on NSD was All-State offensive lineman Austin Golson. Golson announced that he would be attending the University of Mississippi. Golson’s decision to change his long time commitment to Florida State University several weeks ago and open up his recruitment came as a surprise. Golson said he wanted to see what other schools had to offer.
Golson said after his visit to the Oxford campus that he felt at home with the Rebels and the new coaching staff assembled as well as the players currently at this school. “I went with my heart,” Golson added. Golson had been committed to the Seminoles since his sophomore season.
Golson picked the Rebels over offers from the Univerisyt of Alabama, Auburn University and Florida State University.
Golson is a very talented offensive lineman standing 6-6 and tipping the scales at 290. He was named All-State and All Metro his junior and senior year. He also played in the US Army All-Star game as well as the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game.
Austin MacGinnis, Prattville’s kicker, inked his letter of intent to attend the University of Kentucky. MacGinnis never wavered on his early commitment with the Wildcats. Kentucky will be getting an outstanding kicker. MacGinnis only kicked one season with Prattville, but it was one of the best year’s any Prattville kicker has had.
MacGinnis hit 41 of 54 kickoffs into the end zone. He also was good on 33 of 34 extra points after touchdown, and was seven of ten with field goals. His longest field goal was 52 yards, and was a yard short of Prattville’s record of 53 yards set by Brian Egan.
