Home » Football NewsPOETS JAYVEES EASE PAST LION JAYVEES, 61-49January 16, 2013 By Jimmy White of Prattville High SchoolPRATTVILLE JAYVEES RALLY FALLS SHORT IN TOUGH DEFEAT Sidney Lanier’s Jayvee basketball team eased past Prattville's Junior Varsity Tuesday night, January 15 at Powell Gymnasium, 61-49. The game was closer than the final score, as Prattville’s Jayvees played the visiting Poets tough, actuallytaking an early lead in the first quarter behind the play of Naquin Brown and the inside play of Braxton James. However the Poets quickly regrouped and by halftime had climbed back on top 31-27. As the third quarter began Lanier went on an 8-0 run for a 39-27 lead. Prattville fought back and actually won the final four minutes to close the gap to 44-37. As the fourth quarter began Prattville could never get any closer than the seven point deficit. Sidney Lanier then won the final four minutes 13-7 to roll past the Lions Jayvees, 61-49. Brown led the Lions with 15 points, while Braxton James tossed in seven points and Lavail Winter added five points. Thompson led all scorers with 15 points for the visiting Poets.
