ROBERT E. LEE WOMEN WIN TOUGH BATTLE WITH LADY LIONS 61-51

Robert E. Lee’s Lady Generals handed Prattville Lady Lions a tough 61-51 loss Saturday Night, January 5 at Powell gymnasium.

The Fourteenth ranked Lady Generals' Terra Lewis drove down court with 5:51 left in the third quarter sinking a 2-pointer and was fouled.  Lewis hit the foul shot to put Lady Generals on top, 33-31.

The Generals then went on an 11-4 run to end the quarter on top, 44-35.  Lee was never threatened again winning the final quarter, 17-16 to earn the hard fought victory over the Lions.

With the win Lee improved to 10-3 with the three losses to Opelika, Wenonah (#4 in class 5A) and Montgomery’s Carver (#9in class 6A.)  Prattville fell to 11-5.

Coach Virginia Barber was proud of the Lions’ effort.  Lee had defeated Prattville earlier in the season in Montgomery, 65-36.

The Generals took an early 6-0 lead on a trey from Arleleatha Gipson and free throws from Jona Evans and Stephanie Thomas.

Aaliyah Holmes got the Lions on the scoreboard with a three pointer with 4:35 left.  Jae Patterson added a deuce after a Lee turnover.  With 2:58 left Daniele Ewert had a three point play the hard way for an 8-6 Prattville lead.

Prattville finished the period with a 5-0 run and a 13-6 lead.

Lee began to chip away at the Lions lead.  With 3:33 left in the first half Evans hit layup following a Prattville turnover for a 20-19 Lee lead.

Carson Haynes’ free throw knotted the game at 20-all.  The Lions got a turnover and Daniele Ewert found Holmes with a snowbird two pointer and a 22-20 Prattville lead.

The Generals knotted the game seconds later with a jump shot from top of the key from Evans.  Prattville turned the ball over and Terra Lewis took it coast to coast for a 24-22 Lee lead.

Prattville regained the lead again after three free throws from Holmes, 25-24.  Lee quickly regained the lead with a steal by Evans as the Generals finished the half on top 28-27.

Prattville played the Generals tough in the early minutes of the second half, taking a 31-30 lead with 5:51 remaining.

The Generals then got a three point play from Lewis to go back on top 33-31, and slowly pulled away from Prattville to lead 44=35 at the close of the third period.

Lee won the final period, 17-15.  Daniele Ewert and Jae Patterson posted double-doubles for the Lions.  Ewert had 13 points and eleven boards, while Patterson had 12 boards and ten points.
