Robert E. Lee’s Lady Generals handed Prattville Lady Lions a tough 61-51 loss Saturday Night, January 5 at Powell gymnasium.
The Fourteenth ranked Lady Generals of Robert E. Lee’s Terra Lewis drove down court with 5:51 left in the third quarter sinking a 2-pointer and was fouled. Lewis hit the foul shot to put Lady Generals on top, 33-31.
The Generals then went on an 11-4 run to end the quarter on top, 44-35. Lee was never threatened again winning the final quarter, 17-16 to earn the hard fought victory over the Lions.
With the win Lee improved to 10-3 with the three losses to Opelika, Wenonah (#4 in class 5A) and Montgomery’s Carver (#9) in class 6A. Prattville fell to 11-5.
Coach Virginia Barber was proud of the Lions’ effort. Lee had defeated Prattville earlier in the season in Montgomery, 65-36.
The Generals took an early 6-0 lead on a trey from Arleleatha Gipson and free throws from Jona Evans and Stephanie Thomas.
Aaliyah Holmes got the Lions on the scoreboard with a three pointer with 4:35 left. Jae Patterson added a deuce after a Lee turnover. With 2:58 left Daniele Ewert had a three point play the hard way for an 8-6 Prattville lead.
Prattville finished the period with a 5-0 run and a 13-6 lead.
Lee began to chip away at the Lions lead. With 3:33 left in the first half Evans hit layup following a Prattville turnover for a 20-19 Lee lead.
Carson Haynes’ free throw knotted the game at 20-all. The Lions got a turnover and Daniele Ewert found Holmes with a snowbird two pointer and a 22-20 Prattville lead.
The Generals knotted the game seconds later with a jump shot from top of the key from Evans. Prattville turned the ball over and Terra Lewis took it coast to coast for a 24-22 Lee lead.
Prattville regained the lead again after three free throws from Holmes, 25-24. Lee quickly regained the lead with a steal by Evans as the Generals finished the half on top 28-27.
Prattville played the Generals tough in the early minutes of the second half, taking a 31-30 lead with 5:51 remaining.
The generals then got a three point play from Lewis to go back on top 33-31, and slowly pulled away from Prattville to lead 44=35 at the close of the third period.
Lee won the final period, 17-15. Daniele Ewert and Jae Patterson posted double-doubles for the Lions. Ewer had 13 points and eleven boards, while Patterson had 12 boards and ten points. Jay
