LADY LIONS PICK UP WIN NUMBER NINE AFTER SLOW START
Prattville’s Lady Lions picked up their ninth victory of the season Friday night, December 14 at Powell Gymnasium with a 57-45 win over the Woodlawn Lady Colonels from Birmingham.
With the win Prattville improved to 9-2 on the early season. Woodlawn fell to 3-6.
The Lions started rather lethargic taking a slim 8-7 lead midway of the first period on Daniele Ewert's two pointer from top of the free throw circle. Ewert’s bucket ignited a 6-1 run to close the opening period on top 14-8.
By halftime the Lions had built a 25-16 lead and appeared to be on the verge of a runaway win.
However Prattville could never put the pesky Colonels away and by 3:02 of the third period Woodlawn had clawed their way back into the game, training only 29-26. The worst case scenario also popped up for the Lions. Top scorer and senior leader Daniele Ewert had to go to the bench with four personal fouls.
Ewert set out for seven minutes, but Barber gave the team a pep talk which resulted in Prattville outscoring Woodlawn, 17-12 for a 46-38 lead when Ewert returned with 3:43 left in the game.
Ewert finished with a double-double tossing in 15-points and pulling down 13 boards. Jae Patterson added 17-boards, while Aaliyah Holmes finished with 18-points.
Woodlawn’s Ashley McCrear led all scorers with 26 points.
