JEFF DAVIS 14-0 RUN SPOIL GREAT PERFORMANCE BY LIONS INTO HEART BREAKING 67-64 LOSS
Prattville boys’ head basketball coach Xavier Robinson had no answer to Prattville’s terrible defeat Tuesday night December 11 at the hands of Jeff Davis. The Lions played extremely well for all but six minutes of the 32-minute contest.
Prattville led 59-48 after Justin Coleman went coast to coast with an easy layup and an eleven point lead early in the final quarter. There was seven minutes and 15 seconds left in the game and Prattville appeared to be heading for a big win.
Jeff Davis went down court and Franklin Kaelin tossed in a two pointer. On the ensuing toss in, the Vols stole the ball for an easy layup from Wesley Adarius. On the next toss-in, again it was stolen by Desmond Deramus. Deramus drained a three pointer and suddenly it is a 59-55 game with 6:13 left.
Prattville went down court and again turned the ball over and fouled Adarius who hit the bottom of the two shot free-throw, 59-56. Prattville missed an easy layup under the basket, with JD racing down court for another easy layup trimming the lead to a mere one point, 59-58.
The Lions then made three more consecutive turnovers with Jeff Davis converting on two of the turnovers to take a 62-59 lead with 4:28 left. In a short period of three minutes and 47 seconds Jeff Davis had erased a 11 point deficit and taken a three point lead.
Prattville finally broke the 14-0 run with a two pointer from Andre McBride trimming the lead to 62-61. The Lions got a turnover, but McBride missed an easy lay-up under the basket. The Lions got another turnover, but threw the ball away and fouled Adarius. Adarius drained both free throws and a 64-61 lead with 1:33 left. JD took a time out and immediately got another turnover and went down court with Deramus making it 66-61 with 34 seconds left.
The Lions went down court and Coleman drained a trey trimming it to 66-64 with 14.4 seconds left. Jeff Davis took the ball out and Deramus took the toss in. Prattville was immediately called for a foul that did not appear to be a foul. Still Deramus hit the bottom of the two shot free throw to win, 67-64.
Prattville had committed eight turnovers in the short six minutes.
Prattville played well for the first 32 minutes. The Lions led 21-20 at the close of the first quarter. Jeff Davis took a 35-30 lead at halftime.
As the third quarter began the Lions caught fire and blistered the Volunteers 27-15 to take a 57-48 lead at the close of the period. Coleman’s steal and coast to coast trip made it 59-48 as the fourth quarter began, setting up the unbelievable collapse by the Lions..
The rest of the game was disastrous for Prattville. It is one of the worst defeats of Xavier Robinson’s career at Prattville.
Coach Robinson was at loss for words after the difficult turn of events.
Kamryn Pettway led the Lions with 12 points and 11 boards, while Coleman and Zach Darby each had 17 points. Cody Smith and Andre McBride pulled down 11 boards each.
