Bridgejae Patterson and Danielle Ewert led the Prattville Lady Lions to a 72-57 victory over the Stanhope Elmore Lady Mustangs Friday night, December 7 at Powell Gymnasium.

With the victory Prattville improved its season record to 7-1 and took an early lead in the Area 7 Class 6A race.   Prattville is in Area 7 with Alabaster’s Thompson, Wetumpka, and Stanhope Elmore.

The Mustangs played Prattville on an even kneel as the game began.  The Lions and Mustangs were tied four times in the opening period with the last tie coming with 38 seconds left in the period.

Patterson hit back to back buckets from under the nets to knot the game and then put the Lions on top 8-6 at the 5:18 mark. After a Mustangs turnover Aaliyah Holmes drilled a three-pointer for an 11-6 lead with 4:42 left.

Stanhope Elmore battled back and tied the game with a coast to coast trip from Raven Russell.  Ewert then went down court and hit a layup with 8-ticks left in the first period.

As the second quarter began Lakeyia DeJarnette drove down the lane for a layup and was fouled.  She hit the free throw for a 15-14 Mustangs lead.

Ewert answered Dejarnette’s bucket with a deuce from the lane putting Prattville back on top 16-15.  The Lions never trailed again.

Still Stanhope Elmore stayed close at halftime, trailing only 33-28.

The second half Prattville slowly began to pull away.  The Lions outscored Stanhope Elmore, 28-18 in the third period for a comfortable 61-46 lead.

Prattville coach Virginia Barber began to substitute freely in the final period with the reserves battling the Mustangs to an 11-11 tie and post the seventh win of the season.

Prattville’s only defeat came earlier in the season to a very talented Robert E. Lee team in Montgomery currently ranked 14th in the state 6A polls.

Patterson had a career high 25 points and 30 rebounds to pace Prattville.  Ewert followed with 23- points, 17 rebounds and eight assists.   Holmes added 12 points and seven assists.

Lakeyia DeJarnette led the Mustangs with 21 points, followed by Raven Russell with ten points and Destiny Jackson with eight points.
