Stanhope Elmore’s Justin Williams calmly walked to the free throw line with four seconds remaining to play with the score knotted at 47-all with their rivals from Prattville High Friday night in Prattville. Williams sank both free throws with nothing but string music. The Lions couldn’t get the ball up court for a final shot. Stanhope Elmore won 49-47. Williams' free throw attempt came after Prattville’s Jeremiah Seay had missed a layup attempt from the free throw lane. Seay got the rebound but then turned the ball over with the Mustangs going down court and Williams was fouled. Prattville took an early lead in the game with a 13-9 advantage at the close of the first period. The Lions led for majority of the second period and at one point held a seven point lead, 22-15, with 2:17 left in the half after Derek Gappa hit the front end of a free throw. The Mustangs then rolled to a 12-3 run to take a 27-25 lead at half time. Early in the third period the Lions took a one-point lead when CJ Coleman drilled trey from the corner. The Mustangs answered quickly with a basket to regain the lead and never trailed again. Prattville did tie the game four times before Bishop Frazier gave the Mustangs the lead at the close of the third quarter. With 35.6 seconds left in the battle Prattville’s Wise got a put back off a miss from Nuquan Brown to tie the game at 47-all setting up the final hectic seconds and the win for Stanhope Elmore. CJ Coleman led all scorers with 15 points, while Jeremiah Seamy added 14 and Nuquan Brown had five for Prattville. Frazier Bishop led the Mustangs with 12 points while Justin Williams added eight points, including hit six of six free throws.
