Most coaches of the high school baseball teams in the Central Alabama area that has played Prattville High School this season all agreed that the Lions have an outstanding staff of pitchers.
This, of coruse, is a true statement, what with a team ERA of 1.16. However another factor that has pushed the Lions to the number sixth ranked team in class 6A has been timely hitting.
Prattville has two senior players rapping the horsehide at a terrific clip of over .450, as well as a senior catcher hitting .348 with an on base percentage of .475.
Sam Chambliss, Prattville’s starting right fielder is currently blasting out hits and chasing in runners at a terrific .479 average. Chambliss has 34 RBIs and is a threat on the base path with 9-of-9 stolen bases. He also has a.547 On Base Percentage.
Dalton Kelley, another Prattville senior, starting shortstop, is currently hitting .462 with 29 RBIs and 18 stolen bases out of 18 attempts. Kelley has a .500 On Base Percentage.
The three seniors are ranked near the top in these two categories. There are four players from Montgomery’s Robert E. Lee ranked ahead of them in both categories but according to the Max Preps they have played in only 19 games, while both Prattville stars have 33 games under their belt.
Prattville’s senior catcher Josh Lovelady has a .348 batting average with 25 RBIs. He also has a .475 OBP.
While he doesn’t possess the high batting average the Lions' sophomore second baseman Hayden White has 30 RBIs and a .392 on base percentage.
The team has a .313 average, which is good, but most high school teams usually have a .330-.340 average,
Still Prattville coach Tommy Goodson feels good about his team’s ability to hit. The players are anxious to test their abilties as the playoffs begin.
Prattille opens play in the class 6A playoffs Friday Night, April 20 at home with number ten ranked Smiths Station.
