TIOGA — Peabody won the Penalty Bowl at Tioga Friday night.
Quarterback Sadrick Kirklin passed for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead Peabody to a 35-18 victory over Tioga in a three-hour contest marked by 39 combined penalties called against the two teams for 337 total yards.
Tioga had a player (Tim Kennedy) and coach Patrick Garvin ejected. Garvin was booted after two personal fouls were called against his team on the same play in the final period. Kennedy was ejected early in the third quarter after there were offsetting penalties and an unsportsmanlike call against Tioga on the same play.
Peabody, which improved to 5-1 and 2-0 overall, was flagged 22 times for 195 yards, and Tioga (0-7, 0-2) was penalized 17 times for 142 yards.
The last time more yellow flags were seen at a game was when the home fans were waving rally rags by the same color in LSU’s Tiger Stadium.
Once a penalty was called against Peabody after a timeout for a substitution infraction.
There were two less flags thrown than passes by both teams.
Kirklin completed 9 of 14 passes for 147 yards and three touchdowns, and had one intercepted. He had TD strikes of 18, 29 and 26 yards to Darshun Boss, Eriel Dorsey and Contarious Kirklin, respectively. Sadrick Kirklin also rushed 24 times for 119 yards and scored on a 10-yard run.
Contarious Kirklin, Sadrick’s brother, carried six times for 67 yards and scored on a 35-yard run.
Tioga freshman quarterback Logan Dubois completed 8 of 28 passes for 104 yards and one touchdown with three interceptions. He had a 6-yard scoring strike to Thomas Ambush.
Derrick Sampract carried 17 times for 117 yards for Tioga, but the lone rushing touchdown for the Indians was a 1-yard run by Darius Logan.
That gave Tioga a 6-0 lead in a game that had an unsportsmanlike penalty called against Peabody during pre-game warmups, which was assesed on the opening kickoff. There was a roughing the passer penalty on Peabody on the game’s first play.
Tioga managed its last touchdown after a Peabody interception deep in Peabody territory was stripped and Lentavius Hall recovered and ran for a touchdown with 1:03 remaining.
