The Ouachita Lions slugged out a 52-42 win over Peabody Magnet on Wednesday night at Ouachita in a battle of two of Louisiana's basketball heavyweights.

Class 5A No. 2 Ouachita (19-4) improved its win streak to eight games by knocking off Peabody, the top-ranked team in Class 4A, in the late game of a doubleheader.

Ouachita weathered an opening Peabody (16-4) attack and began chipping away at the lead.

The Lions took their first lead of the game on a Kwame Fletcher free-throw with 11 seconds in the half to carry a 24-23 lead into the locker room.

The Lions opened the third with a 10-0 run, sparked by a Chris Sumbler three-pointer.

Peabody made a late run in the fourth quarter, but the Lions held steady to defeat the Warhorses for the first time since 2009.

Cameron Sims led all Ouachita scorers with 16 points. Yettra Specks added 12 for the Lions, and Sumbler finished with nine points.

Dvonte Tennie led the Warhorses with 16 points.
