The Town Talk's 2012 All-Cenla Football Team


 The 2012 All-Cenla football team was selected by Town Talk Sports Editor Raymond A. Partsch III and Town Talk sports reporters Bob Tompkins and Warren Hayes.


QB: Jequan Dwellingham, Peabody, 6-foot, 180, Sr.: The converted safety helped the Warhorses to their first playoff game since 2004 by passing for 1,498 yards with 21 touchdowns to only 3 INT with 818 rushing yards and 15 TDs.

RB: Dravon Batiste, Avoyelles, 5-foot-7, 165, Sr.: Speedster was the state's third-leading rusher in the regular season, rushing for 2,156 yards, averaging 9.6 yards per carry and scored 33 touchdowns.

RB: DeQuame Varra, Tioga, 6-foot, 220, Sr.: Talented tailback displayed power and flash as he guided the Indians to a 5-5 record after rushing for 939 yards and 10 TDs in only nine games.

FB: DeAnthony Jackson, Winnfield, 5-foot-11, 240, Sr.: Bruising runner led the District 3-2A champion Tigers with 806 yards, averaging 7.4 yards per carry and scoring 72 total points.

WR: JoJo Wardsworth, Bolton, 5-foot-9, 185, Sr.: Versatile playmaker caught 39 passes for 835 yard and 10 TDss, averaging 21.4 per catch. Also rushed for 477 yards with 8 toucdowns and had more than 800 return yards with 2 TDs.

WR: Contavious Kirkland, Peabody, 5-foot-5, 145, Jr.: Had 25 receptions for 708 yards, for 28 yards per catch, and 15 touchdowns. Also rushed for 327 yards with one score.

TE: Taylor Lambert, Avoyelles, 5-foot-11, 240, Sr.: Blocking tight end was instrumental in paving the way for 2,100-yard running back Dravon Batiste and 1,000-yard running back Johntrell White.

OL: Emmett Burton, Block, 6-foot-1, 315, Sr.: Three-year starter earned first-team all-state honors last season and was even better at center in 2012, helping the Bears to a district title and playoff victory.

OL: Hunter Thompson, Buckeye, 6-foot-3, 245, Sr.: Center anchored an offensive line that averaged 32.8 points and 341 yards per game during the regular season.

OL: John Leglue, Holy Savior Menard, 6-foot-4, 235, Jr.: Rangy center helped protect QB Matt Karam while paving big holes for Jacob Mathews and others as Eagles averaged 31 points per game.

OL: Nick Takes, St. Mary's, 6-foot-2, 260, Sr.: Veteran center provided leadership to a youthful Tigers squad, which started four new offensive lineman, but still managed to make the Class 1A playoffs.

OL: Henry Rodriguez, Winnfield,, 5-foot7, 150, Sr.: In spite of his small frame, this undersized guard helped cleared the way for Tiger running backs to rush for more than 3,000 yards.

ATH: Dennis Clay, Buckeye, 6-foot-2, 200, Sr.: Quarterback was playmaker running and throwing, passing for 662 yards, rushing for 815 yards and scoring 20 touchdowns.

ATH: Blake Hinson, Rosepine, 5-foot-8, 160, Sr.: Dual-threat quarterback rushed for 1,135 yards and 18 touchdowns while also throwing for 665 yards with 7 touchdowns.


DL Michael Patterson, Winnfield, 6-foot-4, 230, Sr.: Pass rusher led the Tigers with 9 sacks and had 64 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 forced fumbles, one pass breakup and scored two defensive touchdowns on punts that he blocked.

DL: Jahmal Macklin, Block, 6-foot-4, 230, Jr.: The District 4-1A Defensive MVP recorded 79 tackles, a team-high 12 sacks, 9 tackles for a loss, 4 pass breakups, 3 fumble recoveries and one fumble recovery.

DL: Jacob Rush, Buckeye, 6-foot-2, 335, Jr.: A 2011 All-Cenla first-team honoree, he recorded 74 tackles, including 41 solo, as he earned District 3-3A Defensive MVP honors.

DL: Leroy Hardwell, Winnfield, 6-foot-2, 265, Jr.: Had a breakout year for the Tigers, recording 96 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, 6 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries.

LB Trey Williams, Winnfield, 5-foot-8, 185, Sr.: Inside linebacker led the team with 103 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, 3 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, 5 pass breakups. Also scored 3 defensive touchdowns.

LB: Wesley Boone, Avoyelles, 6-foot-2, 235, Sr.: Besides rushing for more than 600 yards as team's fullback, he led the Mustangs with 91 tackles and recorded eight tackles behind the line and deflected four passes.

LB: Jameson Brown, Pineville, 5-foot-9, 190, Sr.: Emerged as a star in front seven as he piled up 86 tackles, with five tackles for a loss and one fumble recovery for improved Rebels defense.

LB: Roger Laufalemana, Leesville, 5-foot-10, 235, Sr.: Hawaii transfer was a tackling machine for the Wampus Cats as he recorded 109 total tackles, with three fumble recoveries and one interception.

DB: Ricky Gibson, Marksville, 6-foot-2, 190, Jr.: The 2011 All-Cenla Defensive Player of the Year recorded 98 tackles with two interceptions, including returning one for a touchdown.

DB: Shaan Washington, ASH, 6-foot-3, 215, Sr.: The District 3-4A Defensive MVP and Texas A&M commitment recorded 72 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions, 4 pass breakups and returned two interceptions back for touchdowns.

DB: Katreon "KJ" Jones, Winnfield, 5-7, 165, Sr.: Top cornerback for Tigers recorded a team-high 11 pass breakups and three interceptions, including returning one back for a touchdown.

DB: Corbin Hawkins, Marksville, 5-foot-11, 170, Sr.: The Southeastern Louisiana commitment racked up 48 total tackles and a team-high three interceptions for the co-District 3-3A champs.


K: John Shelton, Winnfield, 5-foot-8, 165, Sr.: Last year's All-Cenla kicker honoree continued to rewrite the Tigers' record books by kicking 59 of 64 PATs and six field goals including a long of 35 yards.

P: Josh O'Bannon, NCHS, 5-foot-11, 170, Jr.: Earned first-team all-district honors after averaging 38.9 yards per punt, had a long of 69 yards and had seven punts killed inside the 10 yard line for the Chiefs.

RS: DeEldrick Taylor, Pineville, 5-foot-10, 180, Jr.: The Rebels defensive back took three punts backs for touchdowns while averaging 21 yards per return.
