Pinecrest Grapplers Rout Anson Co. 69-12

The Patriot varsity wrestlers swept through the Anson Bearcats dual team pretty handily this past Wednesday at Pinecrest High School with a score of 69-12. The Pinecrest dual team record is now 11-1 and is ranked #3 in the tournament team rankings for the NC 4A division with 7 of their grapplers ranked in the top 10 in their weight classes.
     The meet began with 6 team points on the board for Pinecrest with a Bearcat forfeit at 120 followed by 18 more team points earned by junior Mario Contreras (126), sophomore Dallas Roemer (132),ranked #3-4A, and senior Garrett Bateman (138), ranked #8-4A, with quick pins in their first periods against Anson's Darius Little, Vernice Rorrie, and Dimitry Ingram. Another Anson forfeit at 145 brought the Pinecrest score to 30-0 before Patriot senior Dustin Roemer (152), ranked #1-4A, pinned Darien Little at 1:36 for 6 more team points.
     The closest match of the evening was between Pinecrest sophomore Rider Excell (160), ranked #9-4A, and Anson senior Jeremy Buchanan, ranked #2-3A, with a 10-7 decision win in Excell's favor bringing the team score to 39-0 Pinecrest. Anson put their first 6 on the scoreboard with a pin at 170 before Pinecrest matched with a pin at 3:17 by sophomore Bryson Thomas (182) against Jaquan Wall. Another Anson forfeit at 195 followed by a second period pin by Patriot junior  Luke Fetla (220), ranked #6-4A, over Bearcat Terence Dumas brought the scoreboard to 57-6. The Pats forfeited HWT and 6 points to Anson before snagging the last 12 points of the meet when freshman Irvin Enriquez (106), ranked #4-4A, pinned Drew Honeycutt in 23 seconds and Anson gave up a forfeit at 113.
     The Patriots will travel to the Trinity Bulldog Invitational this coming Saturday, December 10th before hosting their first in conference meet against Purnell Swett next Wednesday, December 14th, 6pm at the Pinecrest High School gym.
