Jennie Cunningham of Pinecrest finished first in the 1,000 meter run at the NCHSAA 4A State Winter Track Championships held at the Reid Ross Classical School in Fayetteville early Saturday afternoon.
The sophomore crossed the finish line in 3.02.98, nipping second place Maura McDonnell of Green Hope by a fraction of a second. Another Patriot sophomore, Hannah Hensley, placed third in the long jump, and fourth in both the 55 meter hurdles and high jump.
With several events still to run, the team results for the Patriot girls and boys were not yet available.
