Home » Men's Bowling NewsUPIKE Bears Win 2011 Green River ClassicOctober 1, 2011 By Kyle Wilson of University of PikevilleCampbellsville, KY......The UPIKE Bears Mens Bowling Team started off their 2011-2012 Collegeiate Bowing Season by defending their 2010 Title and winning the 2011 Green River Classic, held Saturday, Septemer 24, 2011 at Phillips Lanes. Leading the Varsity Team was Freshman Lucas Hohnstein, of Boise, Idaho. He finished 3rd in Men's singles with a 4 game score, of 835, a 208.75 average. The Varsity team found themselves in 5th place after 4 team games 191 pins behind the then tournament Leaders, The University of Louisville. The Bears dominated in Bakers posting scores of 800, 866, 798, and 816 for a 3280 Team baker total. 322 pins better than the 2nd place University of Louisville. The Bears Total Pins of 6873 gave them a final 138 pin advantage for the win. Other team members were: Sophomore Josh Adams, of Boise, ID; Junior Mark Allen, of Mason, OH; Sophomore John Bartosiewicz Jr., of Sewell, NJ; Sophomore Robert Gilliam, of Pecatonica, IL; Freshman Lucas Hohnstein, of Boise, ID; Senior Richard Lane, of Cinciinnati, OH; Sophomore Fidel Marchena, of the Dominican Republic; and Sophomore Rodrick Taylor, of Richmond VA. The Bears Junior Varsity Team won their respective division by over 381 pins over 2nd place Cumberland University. Leading the JV Bears were Junior Cory Cotterman with a 4 game total, of 804, a 201 average. Freshman Francsisco Gamero, of El Salvador, with a 199.75 average. Other team members were Sophomore Jeff Blind, of Webster, NY; Freshman Robert Cartwright, of Nicholasville, KY; Freshman Kyle Kieser, of Jasper, IN; Junior Kyle McInerney, of Davision, MI; Freshman Derek Perkins, of Oklahoma City, OK; and Freshman Anthony Scerati, of Mount Laurel, NJ. The Bears will be back in action on the Lanes when they travel to Dayton, Ohio, October 15-16, 2011, to compete in the 2011 Orange & Black Classic, hosted by UPIKE.
