TALENT — John Esqueda and the Phoenix boys soccer team put on an offensive display at Hagler-James Park on Tuesday.

"It was like goals gone wild," Phoenix head coach Dennis Flenner said.

Esqueda, a junior, erupted for five goals and Alex Vela, Jose Alegria and Ezequiel Flores each scored once for the Pirates, who beat North Valley 8-2 in Skyline Conference action.

Phoenix led 4-0 at halftime in its first home game of the season.

Alegria turned in two assists and Guadelupe Flores, Ezequiel Flores, Hector Rocha, Eli Espana and Vela offered up one assist apiece against the Knights (3-3, 0-3 Sky).

Ezequiel Flores' goal in the 46th minute put the Pirates (4-1-1, 3-0 Sky) ahead 6-0.

North Valley's Trinidad Flores scored in the 50th and 52nd minutes.

KLAMATH UNION 5, HIDDEN VALLEY 0 — At Klamath Falls, Jose Meza scored twice to lead Klamath Union in the Skyline game.

The score was only 1-0 at halftime, then the Vikings (3-3-1, 1-2) erupted. They outshot Hidden Valley 22-11 and had seven corner kicks to two for the Mustangs (2-3-1, 0-3).
