Spearheaded by sophomore Baylee Toney, the Pirates held the visiting Mustangs scoreless in the first quarter and limited them to seven field goals overall in a 35-23 victory at Phoenix High. Toney, a 5-foot-8 post, shadowed Hidden Valley's leading scorer Jenna King and got help-side support from her teammates to slow the Mustangs, who managed 11 points through three quarters. Toney also managed to net seven points and pull down 10 rebounds, while 5-7 junior point guard Delanie Tally had 10 points, six steals and four assists for the Pirates (8-8, 2-3 Skyline). Roxy Ramirez and Kasey Hamilton also had six points for Phoenix. King was limited to four points for Hidden Valley (2-16, 1-4), with Katelyn Lambert scoring six points. HIDDEN VALLEY (23) — Lambert 6, Hansen 5, King 4, Goree 4, Harmon 2, Wagner 2, Davis 0, Murphy 0. Totals: 7 9-22 23. PHOENIX (35) — Ramirez 6, D. Tally 10, B. Tally 2, Hamilton 6, Marshall 3, Toney 7, Skaff 1, Brown 0, McAlister 0, Serrano 0, Macias 0, Martinez 0. Totals: 12 8-18 35.
