Northern track team beats Rockets in wet conditions
March 29, 2009 Person High School
Wednesday's wet weather didn't prevent the Person High School track and field teams from competing against Northern Durham in a PAC-6 home meet, Person's first of the year. Northern girls ended up winning pretty handily, 93-29, but there were some highlights for the Rockets who did compete. Brittany Burton scored one of Person's two individual first-place finishes with a 12.65 effort in the 100meter dash. Jelisa Oakley finished second with a time of 13 seconds. The 4x200 relay team of Oakley, Destiny Poteat, Arneeque Smith and Burton raced to a win in a time of 1:51. Smith won the 400 with an effort of 1:05 Northern also won the boys' meet in convincing fashion. The Person teams, both 0-3 after Wednesday's action, are scheduled to resume competition next Wednesday, April 1, in a PAC-6 meet at Southern Durham.
