Third-place finish for Person in final PAC-6 match
April 30, 2011Person High School
On a day when they needed close to a miracle to notch a top-three finish, the Person Rockets battled the third-place Jordan Falcons down to the wire but once again camup one stroke off the pace in the season's final nine-hole PAC-6 match Monday at the Hillandale Golf Course.
The Rockets carded a team score of 161 to place third on Monday while Jordan ended up with a 160, good for second. Conference champion East Chapel Hill won its sixth match of the season by shooting a 158.
The final standings had ECH well ahead in first with 48 points, followed by both Jordan and Northern tied with 36 points to account for the top-three Division 4A regional team playoff qualifiers. The Rockets, who were last year's conference co-champion with Riverside, finished next in line with 31 points.
David Weinberger shot a 39, as did Jesse Moore to lead Person in Monday's finale. Matt Hepler carded a 41 and Taylor Fleig finished with a 42 on the day. Jeffery Kafer and John Johnson also played in the match.
Weinberger and Hepler both qualified for the individual regionals and Moore came very close, as he was just four-tenths of a stroke away form making the regional tourney.
