Person falls to Knights in PAC-6 opener
August 29, 2010
Person High SchoolWhat could have been didn't turn out to be for the Person girls' tennis team in its PAC-6 opener Wednesday afternoon at the Person courts.
The Rockets were in just about every singles match but could only emerge victorious in one of them on their way to an 8-1 loss to the Northern Knights.
The lone victory was Ashley Day's hard-fought 6-4,2-6,1-0 (8) win in the sixth-seeded singles match. Other than that, the Rockets battled hard but came up short.
"The match was closer than the final score indicated," said Person head coach Lynn Ward. "Northern has four seniors in their top six and all four played last year, as well as one junior. We have two seniors in our top six and neither was a starter last year. Northern knew how to win the close matches today, we're still learning."
