The Perry County Central Commodores hosted the Harlan County Black Bears on Saturday. The Commodores got off to a slow start, but picked up the pace and held on for the 52-42 win.
Perry Central hit a couple of shots early and built a small lead. However, Harlan County picked up the pace, hitting a “3” at the horn to take the 11-9 lead.
The second period belonged to the Commodores as they quickly took the lead and began to build a cushion. Going into the locker room, Perry Central was on top 28-21.
Both teams put their best defense forward in the third period, slowing the pace and limiting scoring. Perry Central took the edge in scoring, putting them in the lead 36-26 with eight minutes to play.
Harlan County wasted little time on their side of the floor as they tried to get back in the contest. Each Black Bear basket, however, was matched on the other end of the floor. The lead would not fluctuate during the period, and Perry Central went on to win by the final count of 52-42.
Perry Central (52) Braxton Beverly 25 (5 rebounds and 6 assists), Jaysean Paige 17 (9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 3 blocks), Austin Pray 4 (4 rebounds), Dalton Cornett 4 (13 rebounds and 13 blocks), Kyle Huff 2 (1 rebound, 2 steals and 1 block), and Trevor Combs (3 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal).
