The 11th-ranked Oldham County Colonels (31-5), champions of the 8th Region, battle 2nd-ranked Scott County (33-4), winners of the 11th Region, in the second semi-final game of the 2012 Kentucky Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament.
The winner faces the victor of the Southwestern / Trinity semi-final at 8 pm at Rupp Arena in the championship game.
Game Notes: Oldham County's 31 wins ties a school record previously set by the 1980 team, which finished 31-3. The Colonels come into the game on an 18-game winning streak, best in Kentucky. They also feature the state's stingiest defense, surrendering less than 45 points per game.
Scott County and Oldham County battled many times previously in the 8th Region for region supremacy; this will be the second time the two teams have met in the Sweet 16 since Scott County was moved to the 11th Region after the 2004-5 season. The two met in the first round of the 2007 Sweet Sixteen, with Scott County winning, 59-47. The Cardinals went on to win the state title that year.
