PC 66 - Centennial 83

December 9, 2013
Park Center Girls Basketball

Centennial came into Thursday's game ranked #6 in AAAA with 5 senior starters.  The Pirates came in ranked #2 in AAA starting 2 freshman, 2 juniors, and 1 senior.   The Pirates youth was overcome by the Cougars experienced team in the first half.  A slow paced game with many fouls being called with an advantage for the more experienced team.  We made some good adjustments at halftime and the girls played really well in the second half despite being down by 22 at the break.  Although we came out of the game with a 17 point loss we grew up a lot and learned a lot about ourselves.  We still have a lot to learn and losing always stings but we should feel optimistic about our season.  Centennial is a great team and extremely well coached.  It was a good lesson for us as we continue to discover who we are and what we are capable of.

“B” Team

Another strong defensive effort by the Pirates - with 37 rebounds, 7 steals, and 8 blocked shots - propelled the “B” Team to their 2nd win in as many games Thursday night at Centennial.  Coupling the explosive attack of our transition offense along with the effective execution of timely man-to-man full court presses, the Pirates were able to hold-off the Cougars 44 – 26.  Our home opener is next when we go up against Osseo on Tuesday at 5:30PM.  Go PIRATES!!!  – Coach Coalwell
