Home » Track & Field NewsLadyhounds Qualify Several for State TrackMay 23, 2011 Paris High School--REGION 5 TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS-- Two Relay Teams And Three Individuals Will Represent Paris High School This Friday OWENTON - “It was a tough day to run but every team had to participate in it,” said Paris Coach Brian Washington. “Our times would’ve been a lot better had the weather been better.” Despite the conditions, the Ladyhounds track team did perform well enough to win their second straight 4x200 meter relay region title. The foursome of Morgan Crain, Asia Sims, Anovia Byars and Shakila Grant blew out the field in winning in a time of 1:53.06 seconds. Second place finisher Frankfort finished nearly six seconds behind Paris at 1:59.02. “We didn’t get pushed at all,” said Washington. “By the time Asia ran her leg, the race was over.” The coach continued on to say that their time could cost them a decent lane at the state meet. “Although you’re competing in your region, you are also competing against other regions across the state,” Washington explained. “So, you are still trying to post a good time to get a good seating at state. I just wish we could’ve been pushed more but we will at state.” The foursome broke the school record two weeks ago in a time of 1:49.86 seconds. Crain, Sims, Byars and Grant teamed up again in the 4x100 relay and ending up losing a close race to Lexington Christian. Paris won the 4x100 during last year’s region meet that was held on a nice sunny day at Tates Creek High School. LCA’s winning time was 53.07 seconds and Paris was right beside them at 53.09 seconds. “In a race like that it’s all about the baton exchanges,” commented the Paris coach. “They just had better exchanges.” The Paris boys’ team didn’t fare as well as the girls as the team failed to score during the region meet and they will have no participant at this week’s Class A meet. “We’re a year away,” said Coach Washington. “This was a growing year for us and next season I’m expecting our boys to be one of the better teams in the region.” The 2011 KHSAA Class A State Track & Field Championships will get underway Friday at 8:00 am at Owsley Frazier Park, which is the home of the University of Louisville track and field team.
